My father in law has a store in downtown Troy, Texas, and it is full of the cutest antiques, gifts and coffee! The Troy General Store. The best snickerdoodle coffee you will ever taste. We usually take the boys every Saturday morning to visit with Papaw & Sometimes they even have a doughnut waiting on them 😉
But, there is a little history behind my love for this store and it begins here:
When I first met my husband, we were in college and he would work at the store in the evenings a few days out of the week. I loved the place from the beginning. What a gem. The place is full of knick knacks, wooden and metal art from Texas artists (and oh so much more!), and the vibe is one that is very warm and welcoming. It was like a home away from home. I enjoyed spending time down there with my hubs (he was my boyfriend at this time), and his family, listening to Texas country music and sipping our snickerdoodle. Ohhh, and another really awesome thing about the store is the music barn out back. Before I met my husband, he played in a metal band and they would throw metal fests and invite local metal bands to play on the stage in the music barn. I thought this was awesome. I never got the chance to see the first or second metal fests, but they hosted the third shortly after I came around. From there, they lined up shows of all different genres. Punk, progressive rock, etc. I may have been the little bird that told someone how awesome it would be to get the Coma Lilies out there 😉 We had some pretty awesome times. After we got married and had babies, we stopped having shows, and instead started our own little market. I made my handmade baby items: bandana bibs, blankets, headbands, and my husband sold local organic produce and homemade kolaches.I could get seriously fat off those kolaches. My husband can work some magic in the kitchen and those kolaches were bomb! Occasionally we would have some friends of ours come out and play covers as the town browsed the vendors goods. It’s been a while since we have had a market and lately, the guys have been taking steps to renovate the place, and update a few things. They have come up with a bunch of great, new ideas & I am excited to see what lies ahead in the next chapter of the Ole’ Troy General Store!
Anyway, I recently decided I wanted to try to help my father in law promote the store. Back in the day, I used to hand paint flyers for the show and I enjoy trying to help in any way I can! Since I don’t have as much time to paint these days, I was thrilled to find Build a Sign. We are a family of DIY’ers and this option fit us best, because it allowed us to work together to create our own unique design.
I ordered 25 bumper magnets to start us off, and to see if we really liked it. Our main concerns were whether it would last and stay on our car. But these bad boys are good to go. I don’t think we will have anything to worry about with them. They are sturdy and I’m betting they will hold up quite well. I’ll be sure to keep you all updated.
In the meantime, I hope you guys are all enjoying time with your families for the holidays! I have been soaking up every second with these little dudes and cannot believe my Luc will be hitting the 4 month mark this month. He’s ah-going and mmm-geeing at me on the daily now. Oh, how I love that baby talk!
Cherish your time together, folks. We may not all have wealth monetarily, but the greatest riches are the memories we create and share with those we love. Get your love on.
Do you have a story to share about your visit to the Troy General Store? We have shared so many great memories with our great friends there I would love to reminisce with ya 😉 Cheers to a new year & a new chapter for us all! Much love!
